About English Bay
How we got our name
English Bay is a beautiful beach that is located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is west of the downtown peninsula separating the bay from Burrard Inlet. The lively West End neighborhood of Denman St. and Davie St. begin at English Bay, where on both streets you'll find a great variety of restaurants, cafes and shops. In 1983 we were one of the popular retail bakery outlets on Denman street. We have moved from the bakery to manufacturing plants but still kept the name as inspiration for the café that started our journey.
The growth
Our founder, Jack Seguin, created the first cookie recipes that were hand scooped and baked for the retail outlet. The same quality ingredients are found in our unchanged base recipes of today. To meet the North American demand, our gourmet cookies are now made in larger manufacturing facilities with the same attention to superior quality as we did when we started in the small café.
Now English Bay has 6 food plants that employ over 200 people. In Canada we have 2 facilities located in Delta, British Columbia; 3 in Mississauga, Ontario and in the US we have one facility in Columbus, Ohio.
English Bay Batter is available for all distribution channels: Food Service, In-Store Bakeries, Private Label, C-Stores and Club Stores. We offer our own (English Bay Batter) brand, co-manufacturing, Private Label and blending opportunities.
Our Research and Development is on-going, aiming to introduce new and exciting products to complement our delectable bakery lines. We are an aggressive, flexible company dedicated to satisfying customer needs and market demands.
Our products
We offer Frozen Cookie dough in pre-portion sizes, Scoop and bake pails; Chubs; Break and bake; and Seasonal Canisters. We also have frozen muffin batter in pails for scoop and bake convenience.
Our Baked plant supplies gourmet cookies, muffins, brownies, fruit bars and graham crumbs.
We expanded our offerings with a pastry line including biscuits, scones, cinnamon buns, crescent rolls, and pie crusts; a dry blend division offering bakery and drink mixes; salad dressings available in pails to foodservice; and our newest member is our fine line of English Bay chocolates.
Our Quality standards
English Bay Batter has accomplished a high standard of quality with all our products, proven with a rating of “excellent”, the highest rating offered by third party auditing bodies, maintained by all 5 of our plants. These audits are performed annually by Silliker in our Toronto facilities; Guelph Food Technology Institute in Vancouver facilities; and ASI Food Safety for the Ohio facility. This has created a strong demand for our award winning gourmet products. Our manufacturing facilities are currently in the process of attaining SQF certification and our Quality Assurance programs ensure strict compliance to all Canadian and U.S. regulations mandated by national and regional laws. Our Quality Assurance department strictly monitors and enforces the procedures at all our locations to ensure the consistency, food safety and quality of our products. A HACCP and allergen control program are in place and supported by the extensive food safety, Good Manufacturing Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures. It is through our dedication to quality that our products have maintained their high ratings with regards to customer satisfaction. We continue to develop and modify our Quality and Food Safety program to continue to be a leader in the industry.
